Proper Stance for Kiteboarding

Having the proper stance while kiteboarding will increase endurance and comfort while helping you to go upwind and avoid the walk of shame.  While riding you should keep your front leg straight and back leg slightly bent.  Further you should try and rotate your torso and head in the direction that you are riding, rather than staying squared up to the kite.  Also keep your hips forward of your shoulders.  If you bend at the waist and stick your butt out it is hard to go up wind and edge properly.  It also throws off your balance and worst of all it looks like you are sitting on the toilet.  Check out the video below and notice all these things:

  • Legs - Front straight, back bent
  • Torso and head - Rotated into the direction of travel
  • Hips - thrust forward, shoulders back
